Ice and compression are very helpful in controlling pain and swelling after hip arthroscopy. We recommend one or both of the two options below — both work well, so it comes down to your preference.
Proventus Hip Wrap
A wrap you can purchase directly from our office, or we can bring it to the surgery center on the day of your surgery. It comes with two gel packs that you keep in the refrigerator or freezer, and it offers customizable, pneumatic compression with a hand pump for a snug, comfortable fit. And it’s yours to keep — unlike a rental, there’s nothing to return when you’re done.
Call or text 202-838-8837 and we’ll have one waiting for you — in the office or at surgery, whichever is easier.
Game Ready
A cold-compression machine shipped directly to your home. Game Ready is provided by WRS Group, an outside company separate from Wolff Orthopaedics — they handle the unit, delivery, and any questions about settings or service (grintake@wrspecialists.com). It typically runs as a two-week rental with the option to extend, and you can set it to whatever temperature and compression level feels comfortable.

How to ice
Whether you use a machine or ice packs:
- Cover as much of the surgical area as possible, including the groin — the more you cover, the better.
- Use these as much as feels good and don’t stress about leaving it off for too long. The typical advice is 30 minutes on, 20–30 minutes off, but prioritize what feels best.
- Similarly, adjust the compression to your level of comfort.
- Keep a layer of clothing between the device and your skin (wear shorts).
- You can ice throughout the day and night as needed. It helps tremendously with pain control in the first couple of weeks; as you heal, it’s most helpful after therapy or activity.
